The Little Gasparilla Island Preservation Alliance (LGIPA), a Not-For-Profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt Corporation, is dedicated to safeguarding Little Gasparilla Island (LGI) and defending homeowner rights through environmentally sound means. Our original focus was on opposing the new central low-pressure sewer system application at the Public Service Commission (PSC) proposed by Environmental Utilities (EU).

The LGIPA was successful in our efforts to stop the EU application from being approved.  Now that the application is denied, we remain vigilantly watchful for further concerns that might surface.

A True Florida Treasure

The LGIPA believes Little Gasparilla Island is a true Florida Treasure with a unique old Florida way of life that deserves to be preserved and protected.  Safeguarding the natural beauty, environmental integrity, and financial interests of Little Gasparilla Island and its neighboring islands is a primary goal.  We aim to protect and enhance our community by advocating for environmentally sound and financially sustainable solutions to infrastructure, while fostering a strong sense of unity and collaboration among island residents. Our commitment extends to engaging in legal and educational efforts to ensure that the rights and interests of all homeowners are upheld and that future generations can continue to enjoy the unique character and natural splendor of our island.

LGIPA current priorities include:

  • Identifying ecofriendly, affordable septic solutions and collaborative cost-sharing models
  • Collaborating with Palm Island Estates (PIE) and other neighboring islands as we seek to establish the Bocilla Island Chain Conservation District.
  • Preserving the island’s fragile ecosystem and Old Florida culture by securing its status as a natural low-density bridgeless barrier island.
  • Searching for long-term solutions for island access to and from the mainland for property owners.

These and future initiatives require financial support. Donations are crucial to protect LGI from potential adverse impacts and to ensure our unique Florida treasure remains a healthy vibrant marine sanctuary for wildlife and residents alike.

Your contributions, whether as a property owner or a friend of the island, are vital to our cause.
